Biorenewables Initiative Projects

Production and use of biorenewables can lessen our dependence on foreign oil
and fossil fuels, reduce pollution and add value to Iowa's agricultural resources.
This research initiative will engage in research to reduce the input energy/cost of
producing soybean oil-based biofuels and biolubricants. In the 2004/2005
financial year the Initiative will initiate and support four specific projects.

Project 1:

Design soybeans to produce ready-made biodiesel with enchanced performance

Project 2:

Exploration of the physical properties of branched fatty and wax esters

Project 3:

Improving the oil content of soybean for use as a biofuel additive or biolubricant

Project 4:

Determine economic viability and evaluate life cycle impacts of modified oils
