CCUR-BCRF April Affiliate Meeting Will Include Seminar and Student Poster Session
The next CCUR-BCRF affiliate meeting will be Thursday, April 7 at 1 p.m. in the CCUR Technology Transfer Theatre, 1951 Food Sciences Building. The meeting will include a presentation from new affiliate member Dirk Maier, professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, and a student research poster session.
Maier will present, “Addressing food security through research and outreach in grain-based food and feed processing.” Maier's research program focuses on post-harvest engineering applied to grain and feed operations and processing. His outreach program focuses on crop post-harvest handling, drying, storage, processing and loss prevention, global food and nutrition security, and continuing education and credentialing of industry professionals in the global grain and feed industry. Maier also serves as the Associate Director of the Global Food Security Consortium at Iowa State University, which aims to promote research, outreach and capacity building that increase the quality and quantity of food and nutrition in the world.
Additionally, CCUR and BCRF will hold their first-ever undergraduate and graduate student poster session highlighting affiliates’ research activities. All students working with or under CCUR and BCRF affiliates are eligible to participate. Abstracts may be submitted using the online form at www.ccur.iastate.edu/2016abstract-form.pdf by Monday, March 28. All abstracts will be combined into an online resource and hard copies will be available on April 7.
Awards will be given at the end of the meeting to the top three undergraduate student posters and the top three graduate student posters. Winners will receive Target gift cards: $99 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. Affiliates will have an opportunity to view the posters before and after Maier’s seminar and provide an evaluation. Posters will be located in the hallway adjacent to 1951 Food Sciences Building and available for viewing on April 7 starting at noon and ending at 3:30 p.m.
