Fermentation Facility Purchases a New Bench-top Fermentor

October 30, 2018

A new bench-top fermentor was purchased to increase the production capacity of the Fermentation Facility, a Center for Crops Utilization Research (CCUR) facility.

Purchased from Applikon Biotechnology, the fermentor is a complete cultivation system with a 7-liter working volume capacity. It is equipped with Applikon's ez-Control programmable system that accurately controls a number of process parameters including pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, foam and agitation.

The color touch screen interface can guide users through the operation of the controller. The controller allows users to define, store and reload process configurations to reduce experiment setup time. Data can be displayed as a summary, chart or table, and can be exported to other programs such as Excel or Word.

The Applikon 7-liter capacity fermentor was purchased with funds from CCUR, the Center for Industrial Research and Service and the Midwest Grape and Wine Industry Institute

If you are interested in using the fermentor or have any questions, contact Zhiyou Wen, CCUR interim director, at wenz@iastate.eduor 515-294-0426, or Bill Colonna, CCUR assistant scientist, at wcolonna@iastate.edu or 515-294-0643.
